The largest beach after Marina di Campo, on the southern coast, is LACONA (1,200 meters, sandy) and it’s the only one of Elba (but also of all the small islands of the Mediterranean) that still has a large stretch of dune belt.
The beach has all services, bars and restaurants and it’s a very frequented beach among tourists. The better time to visit Lacona is early in the morning, when you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of this soft beach. Services: rents, bars and restaurants. FREQUENTED.
The peninsula of Capo Stella has some small bays (Stella Mare, Cala Chiara, Capo Stella) reachable only on foot (or by sea,) through the winding and scenic paths that crisscross the entire promontory. Don’t miss the small beach of CANATA, near Camping Stella Mare, ideal for swimming and get a tan. The beach is often frequented by naturists.
On the other side of Capo Stella, next to Lacona, there is the beach of MARGIDORE (750 m, sand and pebble). It’s a very wide beach easily reachable (you can arrive with your car until the beach), but also very quiet, with a seabed rich of flora and fauna. Services: Rent, Bar/Restaurant. FREQUENTED
BEACHES ACQUARILLI, NORSI, FELCIAIO, LIDO, CALANCHIOLE.
The road runs along the coast line, winding and spectacular, offering breathtaking panoramic views: on the horizon the impressive profile of the island of Montecristo, in the background the top of the peninsula of Mount Calamita, on which lies the medieval village of Capoliveri … and casting his eyes down, the crystalline transparency of the beautiful and wild bays: Acquarilli, Norsi, Felciaio, Lido, Calanchiole.
You can park in the lay beside the road and take the difficult and steep path down to the sea. The green rocks, the scents of the Mediterranean, the anthropomorphic shapes of the cliff, give the profound perception of a wild setting. After about 15 minutes you reach the beach ACQUARILLI (130 m fine gravel and pebbles). Secluded, quiet and wild beach. Also frequented by naturists. Services: None. WILD.
NORSI(300 m gravel and sand). With the car you arrive almost to the beach, there is only about 100 meters walk to do on foot. It’s not easy to find a place, tight spaces.
The beach has just a small concession with chairs and umbrellas, the rest is free. Two bars give a caribbean atmosphere to this bay. Spectacular is the rising of the moon, while eating a pizza on the beach. Services: rental, bar/restaurant. FREQUENTED.
FELCIAIO (100 m sand). To reach this beach you have to go in direction Porto Azzurro. Once arrived in Loc. Valdana (Bar La Fontanella) take the dirt road on the right. You can park in the lay beside the road and then take the narrow path of about 300 meters down to the beach. It’s a small and a little ‘tight beach, but its beauty is offered by the seabed and the reefs and rocks that open in front of the beach. Services: None. FREQUENTED.
The beach of LIDO (400 m sand) is next to the small cove of LE CALANCHIOLE (100 m sand). It’s a large and very busy sandy beach. It suffers much the pressure of the structures that are nearby: campsites, hotels, residences, apartments, bars and restaurants. If you visit this beach in the early morning and in low season, you can enjoy all its charm, with its white sand, its gently sloping seabed, and its marble cliffs.
